Auto Insurance Broker in Toronto

Ontario law requires every vehicle on the road to carry insurance. As your broker, I compare rates across 40+ carriers to find the coverage you actually need at a price that makes sense.

What Ontario Auto Insurance Covers

Every auto insurance policy in Ontario follows the Ontario Automobile Policy (OAP 1) standard form, regulated by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA). Your policy is built from four mandatory coverages, each serving a distinct purpose.

Third-Party Liability covers you if you injure someone or damage their property in an accident. Ontario requires a minimum of $200,000, though most brokers recommend at least $1,000,000 or $2,000,000. A serious accident involving injury can exceed six figures quickly, and the difference in premium between $200,000 and $2,000,000 is typically modest.

Accident Benefits (Section B) provide income replacement, medical rehabilitation, attendant care, and other benefits if you or your passengers are injured, regardless of who caused the accident. Ontario's standard accident benefits include up to $65,000 in medical and rehabilitation coverage, with optional buy-ups available for broader protection.

Uninsured Automobile Coverage protects you if you are hit by an uninsured or unidentified driver. This includes hit-and-run scenarios, which happen frequently in a city the size of Toronto.

Direct Compensation - Property Damage (DCPD) covers damage to your vehicle and its contents when another driver is at fault. Under Ontario's direct compensation system, you deal with your own insurer rather than pursuing the at-fault driver's company.

Optional Coverages Worth Considering

Beyond the mandatory four, most drivers in Toronto add Collision coverage (pays for damage to your car when you are at fault or in a single-vehicle accident) and Comprehensive coverage (covers theft, vandalism, fire, flooding, and falling objects). If you are financing or leasing your vehicle, your lender will almost certainly require both.

Other optional add-ons include rental car coverage, roadside assistance, accident forgiveness, and increased accident benefits. I walk every client through the optional coverages so you can decide which ones match your situation rather than paying for things you do not need.

Why Toronto Drivers Pay What They Pay

Toronto is one of the more expensive cities in Ontario for auto insurance, and several factors contribute to that. Congestion means more time on the road and a higher statistical likelihood of collisions. Certain postal codes carry higher vehicle theft rates. And the sheer volume of accident benefits claims in the GTA adds to the overall cost pool.

That said, your individual rate depends on your driving record, vehicle type, annual kilometres, where you park overnight, and the coverage you select. This is precisely where a broker adds value. Instead of accepting one company's quote, I run your profile through multiple carriers and find which insurer prices your specific risk most competitively.

How a Broker Helps You Save

Insurance companies each use their own underwriting models. One insurer might charge a new driver a steep surcharge while another has a more favourable rate class for the same profile. Bundling auto and home with the right carrier can also unlock meaningful multi-line discounts. As an independent broker licensed by RIBO, I am not tied to any single company. I work for you, not the insurer.

Frequently Asked Questions

A broker works for you, not the insurance company. I shop 40+ carriers to find you the best rate and coverage. Direct insurers only sell their own products. With a broker, you get unbiased advice and someone who advocates for you during claims.

No. Brokers are paid by the insurance companies, not by you. There's no additional cost for using a broker, and we often find lower rates because we can compare across dozens of insurers.

Most quotes are ready within 24 hours. For straightforward auto or home insurance, I can often provide a quote the same day. Complex commercial or multi-policy packages may take 2-3 business days.

I serve clients across Ontario. Whether you're in Toronto, the GTA, or anywhere in the province, I can help with your insurance needs.

Absolutely. I work with high-risk insurers as well as standard markets. Whatever your situation — tickets, accidents, or new driver — I'll find you the best available rate.

You call me directly. I'll guide you through the process, advocate with the insurer on your behalf, and make sure your claim is handled fairly and promptly. That's the broker advantage.

It varies widely depending on your age, driving record, vehicle, and postal code. Toronto drivers generally pay more than the provincial average due to higher congestion and claims frequency. The best way to find your actual rate is to get a personalized quote rather than relying on averages.

Yes. G2 drivers are fully insurable in Ontario. Rates are typically higher for newer drivers due to limited driving history, but some carriers are more competitive for G2 holders than others. A broker can identify which companies offer the best rates for your experience level.

You can switch at any time, though it is simplest at renewal to avoid short-rate cancellation fees. I handle the entire process, including coordinating the effective date with your new carrier and confirming the cancellation with your old one so there is no gap in coverage.

The main factors are your driving record, claims history, vehicle make and model, annual kilometres driven, where you live and park, your age, and the coverage and deductibles you select. Bundling with home insurance and maintaining a clean record are two of the most effective ways to keep premiums down.
