How bundling works

Carriers reward customers who hold more than one policy with multi-line discounts. The most common bundle is auto plus home, but you can also pair auto with condo, landlord, or motorcycle coverage, or add life to the mix. Discounts typically run from 5% to 15% on each policy, and some carriers throw in extras like a lower deductible for bundled customers.

The key is that the best bundle varies by carrier. One insurer might have the sharpest auto rate but middling home pricing, while another prices both competitively together. As an independent broker I’m not tied to one company — I compare bundle pricing across 40+ Canadian carriers to find the combination that saves you the most overall.

Common bundles for Toronto clients

• Auto + Home — the most popular bundle, and usually the largest discount. If you own a home and drive in Toronto, start here.
• Auto + Condo — the same multi-line discount for condo owners, pairing your unit-owner policy with your auto policy.
• Auto + Landlord — ideal for property investors who also drive; many carriers extend the discount to landlord policies just as they would a standard home policy.
• Auto + Home + Life — certain carriers add a further discount when a life policy sits alongside your property and auto coverage.
• Business + Commercial Auto — for owners who insure both their operation and their fleet with one carrier.

Why not just go direct?

A direct insurer offers one company’s pricing. A broker offers every company’s pricing. Even with a multi-line discount from a direct insurer, the total can land higher than a different carrier’s rates — or a different carrier’s bundle. The only way to know for certain is to compare, and that is exactly what I do.
